The Mogao Carves is located in the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, which is famous for the porcelain frescos and sculptures. The Mogao Carves is a shining pearl on the ancient Silk Road. On the cliffy Sanwei mountain and with the vast deserts surrounded, the Mogao Carves and the nature are one. It is 25 km away from Dunhuang City. The carves are row upon row, as if a honeycomb were embedded in a big old tree. The roads leading to the Carves were winding, zigzagging and snacking.
Mogao Craves, also named the Thousand Buddha Carves, is honoured as the most valuable discovery in culture of the 20th century. Because of its incomparable cultural and artistic values, it’s also called the Oriental Louvre. Mogao Craves is a mixed palace of historic buildings, sculptures and frescos, and is especially noted as its unique frescos. The amount and quality of these arts cast other religious grottoes, temples, or palaces into shadow. Around the caves, everywhere is painted with Buddhist statues, Gigakus, fairies and so on. There are Buddhist story paintings, and Buddhist historical paintings. There are Buddhastatues seated as high as 33 meters, and some are as short a dozen centimeters of the small Buddha. Most of the caves are engraved with statues or frescos.
The mogao grottoes
When you exposure to cave in, that they look realistic, the Buddha smile freely; it Graceful, dancing fairies; that charming gesture, the sky, flying volley; that there were numerous colorful flowers; that the instruments are not played since the Ming playing with Xian Qu – if your into the fairy kingdom of heaven, body and mind with the fly float rotation, as if the entire cave in rock! Mural is rich in content, can be divided into Buddhist painting, story paintings, by changing paintings, landscape paintings, animal paintings, Buddhist historical sites paintings, mythology paintings, decorative painting patterns and so on. From an artistic perspective, it shows the extraordinary creative artists of all abilities and a high degree of artistic achievements. Historically speaking, it reflects our country’s ancient of all nationalities, all sectors of working life, social activities, science and technology, music and dance, ethnic customs, dress attire and so on. Content wide variety of forms, a long history, the consummate skills actually. The loving Buddha, the dancing fairies and the falling petals makes you feel as if you were in heaven. From an artistic perspective, it shows the extraordinary creativity and abilities of ancient Chinese.
