To welcome his bride,Songzang Gambo had a palace built here,which was later destoryed in the war.In the mid 17th century when the Fifth Dalai was in power,he had the White Palace built and then had the Red Palace expanded to the present scale.
Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum and the Terra-cotta Warriors
Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum was supposed to be mechanical and as long as one get into the Mausoleum, he will be cursed, and because of curses, the Mausoleum has not yet been excavated. What looks like inside could be known when it is opened. The height of the terra-cotta warriors varies from 1.78m, the shortest, to 1.97m, the tallest. They look healthy and strong and have different facial expressions. They organically combined the skills of round engraving, bas-relief and linear engraving, and utilized the six traditional folk crafts of sculpturing, such as hand-moulding, sticking, cutting, painting and so on.
The Summer Palace
The Summer Palace is located on the outskirts of Haidian District, Beijing, China, which is 15 kilometers away from Beijing City. It is China’s leading classical garden which enjoys a worldwide reputation. The Summer Palace was first built in 1153 and served as an imperial palace for short stays away from the capital. Empress Dowager Ci Xi rebuilt it in 1888 with a large sum of money which had been appropriated to build a Chinese navy. The Summer Palace was opened to the public in 1924 and included in the UNESCO world heritage list
