When referring to tourism, people’s first thought is in a sightseeing tour, travelers eat, drink. But now an new form of tourism is quietly emerging–the organic tourism. Conducive to environmental protection, it is getting more popular.
On a farm in Spain’s northwest Galicia region, a group of people are energetically do the farm work. However, they are not farm workers, but actually they are having a special trip. It turned out that these tourists participated in the ”organic tourism” sponsored by the WWOOF (“World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms”). The Organization was founded in the last 70s in the United Kingdom by Ms. Pollard, who was the first to organize several volunteers to go to a farm for the weekend. These volunteers learned a lot practical agricultural knowledge through work, at the same time, to a certain extent, it eases the shortage of the labor, so farmers are willing to provide accommodation for them in turn of their labor. Now under the background of the economic downturn, many people spend vacations with reduced expenses.
Because of the low-cost way oftourism, tourists are delighted to live on the farm, and work on this interesting place for several hours a day. They gather honey like bees, making compost, milk cows and sheep. They had to live in moblike homes and tents without supermarkets and entertainment venues. Although the living conditions are relatively poor, visitors are never tired of doing that.
