Trafalgar Square is the most famous London Square, located in central London, the east is the City of London, north London downtown, south Whitehall Street, and south-west is not far from the Palace. Convenient geographical position and beautiful square building, making it one of the London’s attractions. Trafalgar Square is also a place that British hold political rallies and demonstrations.
Trafalgar Square is built to commemorate the famous Battle of Trafalgar Harbor. French Emperor Napoleon came to power in May 1804, and then he forcing the Spanish crossed the sea to attack the British together. Finally the few British fleets win, but unfortunately, when the naval war ended, Nelson was sacrificed of a stray bullet. To commemorate this great admiral, there are always many people come to Trafalgar Square to hold memorial ceremony on October 21 every year.

In the center of the square, erected a 52-meter-high cylindrical monument designed by William Railton, stand on the top of the peristalses’ 5.3-meter-high statue of Nelson is the works of Bailey. Columns below is the lofty square stone blocks and multi-steps, four walls trimmed the bronze sculpture of 4 famous battle commanded by Nelson, and at the four corners of the lowest layer steps placed four big bronze lions, which are sculptured by Sir Edwin Landseer. This monument was built in 1840 to 1843, and it is said that this bronze statue is produced by the bronze cannon captured from the naval battle.
Every year on Christmas Eve, the big square is full of festive atmosphere, people sing and dance besides the two large pond till daybreak. Trafalgar Square also well known for too much pigeons, so we like to call it “Pigeon Square“. Its number of pigeons can be compared to St.Mark’s Square in Venice. Around the Nelson’s cylindrical monument, flocks of pigeons became a landscape; tourists can feed pigeons in the square with the bread. North of the Trafalgar Square is the famous National Gallery, which displays different schools of paintings of the 14th century to the 19th century in Europe.

At night
Square’s northeast is the London’s famous St.Martin Church which built in 1726, it looks beautiful, there is a 56-meter-high minaret. There is also a police station in the southeast located in a lamppost. This is the UK’s smallest police station, which can only accommodate two police officers. And there are also some other British celebrities statues in the square.
